Unfortunately, I have spent 3 weeks in Kenya without a a single lion-spotting.
Fortunately, it means I’ll return to NYC with all my limbs attached.
Unfortunately, lion-spotting was my reason for coming to Kenya.
Fortunately, that just means I’ll have to come back to Kenya.
Cause unfortunately, my time in Kenya is at an end.
Fortunately, my last week in Nairobi was entertaining & eventful.
Unfortunately, it’s because 2 mice were waiting for me in my hotel room one night.
Fortunately, they didn’t spend the night.
Unfortunately, the locals were calling them rats. Not mice.
Fortunately, they didn’t weren’t as big as NYC rats.
But unfortunately, the locals kept insisting they were rats.
Fortunately, my assignment to photograph SmartLife, an organization that delivers safe drinking water to low income people, went very well.
Unfortunately, my assignment ended with a water pipe gushing into my hotel room through the ceiling.
Fortunately, my computer & camera equipment were all on the other side of the room.
Unfortunately, my luggage did not have the same careful placement.
Fortunately, I was able to dry all my worldly Kenya possessions* under the Kenyan sun.
*minus my computer & camera equipment. Reference previous FORTUNATELY statement.
Unfortunately, all my worldly Kenyan possessions** now have a slight musty smell to them.
**minus my computer & camera equipment. Reference 2 FORTUNATELY statements ago.
Fortunately, I cannot smell the slight musty smell due to my stuffy-by-the-Nairobi-dust nose.
Unfortunately, I don’t suspect that will be the case when I open my suitcase in NYC.
Fortunately, I was given a new room in the hotel as the one I was using previous was more than slightly wet.***
***Reference 4 UNFORTUNATELY statements ago.
Unfortunately, my newly given room had a toilet that didn’t flush, a sink that didn’t drain & a shower that didn’t shower.
Fortunately, I moved to a different hotel.
Unfortunately, the different hotel lost power & the back-up generator didn’t back up nor generate.
Fortunately, this meant I got to share a romantic candlelight dinner with myself.
Unfortunately for me, my Kenyan adventures have come to a conclusion.
Fortunately for you, the synopsis of my Kenyan adventures have also come to a conclusion. You can stop reading now.
Were you waiting for the Swahili word of the day?
Swahili word of the day…kwaheri, which means goodbye.
Goodbye Kenya. For now.
You owe me a lion-spotting.
